Visit by Representatives of the Academic Staff of UE – Varna to Two Universities in the Republic of Turkey

From March 18 to March 22, 2024, Prof. Stoyan Marinov, PhD and Assistant Rector Svilen Stolarov participated in a staff mobility under the Erasmus+ program at Trakia University in Edirne, Turkey. The Bulgarian guests were graciously hosted by Prof. Emel Gyonench Guler, PhD Head of the Department of Tourism Management, Assoc. Prof. Elif Demirel, PhD Faculty Coordinator for the Erasmus+ program, and their colleagues from the Faculty of Applied Sciences.

During this visit Prof. Stoyan Marinov, PhD delivered lectures to students majoring in Tourism on the topic of “Trends in Tourist Travel between Bulgaria and Turkey”. Mr. Stolarov familiarized himself with the specialized material base used for student training in tourism, including the training kitchen and demonstration hotel room. A working meeting was held with Assoc. Prof. Rifat Gurgendereli, PhD Head of the International Relations Office and Institutional coordinator for the Erasmus+ program at Trakia University.

With the assistance of Prof. Guler, PhD a visit was made to Kirklareri University. An official meeting took place with the participation of Vice-Rector Prof. Yunus Chalar, PhD, Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Chomlekchi, PhD Head of the International Relations Office, representatives from the Projects Department, and Assoc. Prof. Nilufer Vatnasever, PhD from the Faculty of Tourism. After exchanging protocol gifts, discussions centered around a Memorandum of cooperation in the field of scientific research and joint tourism projects. Thanks to the professional actions of the International Relations Office at the University of Economics – Varna, an Inter-institutional Agreement was processed and concluded between the two universities. The hosts organized a tour of the extensive material base of the educational institution, including various facilities across different faculties. The library, modern training kitchen for culinary education, training service hall, and lecture halls within the Faculty of Tourism were all explored. A conversation was held with students majoring in Tourism and colleagues from the departments of Tourism Management, Tourism Orientation, Leisure Management, and Gastronomy and Culinary Arts.

On the last day of their stay in Edirne, a meeting was conducted with representatives from the Tourism Association of Edirne to discuss opportunities for collaborative tourism projects under cross-border cooperation programs.
