On 18 September 2026, the University of Economics – Varna hosted its traditional Bulgarian Evening, one of the highlights of the welcome programme for newly arrived international students under the Erasmus+ programme. The event offered students an opportunity to experience Bulgarian culture, traditions and hospitality, making their first encounter with Bulgaria a memorable one.

The evening began with a traditional welcome featuring Bulgarian bread, honey and salt. Students then had the chance to taste a variety of Bulgarian dishes and learn more about the country, its customs and folklore.

The programme included a presentation on Bulgarian traditions and folk dances, as well as an interactive quiz. The students enthusiastically took part in the competition, while the friendly atmosphere and team spirit helped create new friendships and shared memories.

One of the special moments of the evening was the “Erasmus+ Message Board for Future Incoming Students”. Each participant had the opportunity to leave advice and good wishes for future generations of international students. The newcomers also read messages left by previous Erasmus+ students-a symbolic gesture connecting different generations of international students at the University of Economics – Varna.

The highlight of the evening was a captivating performance by ensemble “Bulgarka”, which introduced the guests to the vibrant world of Bulgarian folk music and dance. Inspired by the performance, the international students joined in the traditional Pravo Horo, taking their first steps into one of the most recognisable traditions of Bulgarian folklore.

The Bulgarian Evening gave the new students a chance not only to discover more about Bulgarian culture and traditions, but also to meet one another, connect and create their first shared memories as an international student community at the University of Economics – Varna.
